Activity Report for 2007

Purposes:

a)   To provide free concerts for the enjoyment of the community

b)   To provide a friendly, high-quality musical organization for people who want to continue playing music with other like-minded people

Performances in 2007  (in addition to weekly rehearsals)

February 25:  150th Anniversary of Corvallis, Celebration Concert at LaSells Stewart Center.  The Program featured selections from 50-year milestones in Corvallis’ history, accompanied by slides of early and present-day Corvallis.  Attendance was approximately 1,000. Photos

April 17:  Concert with North Albany Middle School Bands, sponsored by BCCC and North Albany Middle School.  Attendance: approximately 200 Photos

April 21, 28, May 5:  Music at the MuseumA series of chamber music concerts by small ensembles fro the Band in the auditorium at the Benton County Historical Museum, sponsored by the Benton County Cultural Coalition (BCCC) and the Museum.  Attendance:  average 30-40 each week.

June 2:  Picnic in the Park, sponsored by Corvallis Parks & Recreations. A 150th Anniversary event.  Attendance 200-300.

June 17:  OSU Commencement at Reser Stadium.  We provided music prior to and and during the awarding of degrees.  Attendance:  10,000 in the stadium, 30,000 via television. Photos

June 19 – August 28:  Summer Concert Series in Central Park.  We played a one-hour concert every Tuesday throughout the summer.  Each concert had a theme.  Musicians rehearsed at 7 PM and remained to play the concert at 8 PM.   Attendance:  200 – 500 each week. July 4:  Red, White & Blues Festival, Riverfront Park.  The band played at 9 PM preceding the fireworks.  Attendance:  unknown—perhaps 1000 or more. Photos

September 11: Corvallis’ 150th Birthday Party at Riverfront Park.  Attendance:  1000+

October 13: Concert at Fort Hoskins Civil War Reenactment Celebration sponsored by BCCC and the Benton County Parks Department.  Attendance:  about 25

November 11:  Remembrances: A Veteran’s Day celebration in cooperation with the CHS choir, the Hilltop Big Band and several other area musicians.  Two performances: 3 PM and 7 PM. Approximately 500 in attendance. Photos

November 23:  Downtown Holiday Parade. Traveling Band provides Holiday music for the lighted parade.  Attendance:  unknown

December 13:  150th Anniversary event—Penultimate Vaudeville Show and the Majestic Theater.  Theater is sold out for this performance.

December 15:  Traveling Band serenades Holiday Shoppers in Downtown Corvallis. 

December 18:  Holiday Concert at Presbyterian Church, with holiday favorites featuring some of the band’s small ensembles, as well as the full band.  Attendance:  expected 200+
